18th DPs Coordination Meeting Identifies Key Priorities for IAIP Development

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The 18th Development Partners (DPs) Coordination Meeting successfully convened, gathering key stakeholders to discuss the future of Integrated Agro-Industrial Parks (IAIPs) in Ethiopia. The event highlighted the urgent need for the government to prioritize these parks to attract vital anchor investors.

Participants noted the transformative potential of IAIPs for Ethiopia’s agricultural sector, emphasizing their role in promoting industrialization and job creation. However, several critical areas require government attention to fully realize this potential.

**Attracting Anchor Investors**

A major focus of the discussions was the need for strategies to draw anchor investors to the IAIPs. These investors are essential for the parks’ success, providing necessary capital, expertise, and market access crucial for the agro-industrial sector’s development.

**Access to Finance**

The meeting underscored the importance of offering adequate credit facilities and access to finance to maintain investor interest. Ensuring that both registered and potential investors receive the financial support they need is vital for fostering their ongoing participation and investment in the IAIPs.

**Completion of IAIP Infrastructure**

Progress in completing key IAIP infrastructure projects was another significant topic. Participants highlighted the successful finalization of the Yirgalem IAIP and Meki RTC Wastewater Treatment Plant, as well as the Bure Potable Water system. The high-density polyethylene water supply line for Yirgalem IAIP-Sidama has also been completed, with inaugurations planned soon. These developments are expected to improve local living conditions and attract more tenants and investors, driving economic growth.

**Development of the Value Chain**

The meeting also addressed the critical need to enhance the value chain within the IAIPs. Strengthening connections between different production stages—from raw material sourcing to processing and distribution—is essential for maximizing economic benefits and ensuring effective contributions to the country’s growth.

The 18th DPs Coordination Meeting provided a vital platform for stakeholders to align on the priorities and actions necessary for advancing the IAIPs. The insights and recommendations from the session are poised to guide future efforts, positioning the IAIPs as a cornerstone of Ethiopia’s agricultural and industrial development.
