The 2nd Coordinating Committee meeting for the Integrated Agro-Industrial Parks in Ethiopia (OS-IAIP) project marked a significant milestone in the country’s industrial development strategy. Held on December 18, the meeting brought together key government officials, regional leaders, and stakeholders to review the project’s progress and refine its implementation roadmap.

Speaking at the event, the State Minister of Industry, Mr. Hassan Mohammad, emphasized the transformative role of the OS-IAIP project. “This initiative is more than an infrastructure project; it is a critical pillar of Ethiopia’s industrialization strategy,” he stated. The project, implemented with financial support from the Italian government, focuses on enhancing food quality, safety, and traceability within Ethiopia’s agro-industrial sector.

The meeting also reflected on insights gained from the Ethiopian delegation’s first mission to Italy, organized in collaboration with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). “The experience offers us an invaluable opportunity to deepen our understanding of food safety standards and methodologies that can be integrated into our agro-industrial parks,” Mr. Hassan added.

Key documents, including a review of the project’s three-month activities and future directions, were presented during the discussion. Participants also explored lessons learnt and practical approaches to ensure the parks’ operationalization and sustainability.

The OS-IAIP project represents a collective commitment to fostering an innovation-driven economy powered by modern technology and value-added production. “The parks are a witness to our dedication to building a healthy economy that prioritizes quality and sustainability,” Mr. Hassan said.

High-ranking officials, including State Minister for Ministry of Finance Mrs. Samarita Sawaswe, State Minister for Minister of Agriculture Dr. Melese Mekonen, Amhara National Regional State Vice President Mr. Ahmedin Mohammed, and leaders from the Industrial Park Development Corporation and federal institutions, actively participated in the meeting. Their collaborative engagement underscores the importance of a unified approach to advancing Ethiopia’s industrial development goals.

As Ethiopia continues to develop its agro-industrial sector, the OS-IAIP project serves as an example of innovation and growth, setting a foundation for sustainable economic transformation.
